July 3—Make the craft beer run!

DATELINE--ALL ACROSS THE U.S.A.—July 3 has been declared “National Independent Beer Run Day” by the U.S. Brewers Association (BA--the nonprofit trade association representing small and independent brewers). The BA is urging beer enthusiasts across the nation to look for and buy craft beer produced by independent breweries for their July 4th celebrations (see what they did there—drink independent on Independence Day…?).

Julia Herz, craft beer program director for the Brewers Association, stated: “Craft beer serves as the anchor for so many Independence Day celebrations. Our libations and the liberation we’re celebrating should go hand in hand.”

These days, wherever you are, there’s sure to be a local craft micro- or nanobrewery, if not in your own neighborhood, then most certainly within 10 miles of home. Numbers from the Brewers Association show that 7,346 craft breweries operated in the U.S. in 2018. Depending on where they operate, some are takeaway-only, some are full-service brewpubs, while still others are “third place”-style taprooms, where neighbors gather for a little community, a bit of conversation, and a few locally made beers.

What better way to commemorate the pioneering American spirit (stay with me here as I torture the metaphor) than with some fresh brews from your local craft beer maker?

Celebrate the holiday with your family and friends—make sure you include some locally made craft beer—make the craft beer run on July 3!
